From the corporate view, buybacks are infinitely safer as they theoretically gives stocks a permanent dividend bump, assuming all things being equal. 

If the corporation committed itself to a dividend boost, would they then sequester that cash and make some kind of investment to boost their cash flow to support the dividend?</description>
